Work was so busy today :( so many symptoms to manage, cancer sucks!!!!!!! Despite the nature of the job, it is so rewarding, were privileged to share precious time and moments with our pts and families and learn so much. The 'team' is fantastic, were all on the same page have each others backs, I wouldn't want to change my career for all the tea in china.
Today one of our co-workers had to leave urgently, leaving two nurses for 10 acutely ill cancer pts, the misconception for our unit is we are a hospice, completely the opposite we are known as palliative ICU, so there are never any quiet times, its full on all the time, i was about to leave when my co-worker had to go, knowing we wouldn't get anyone at short notice for 3 hrs (despite my best efforts) i stayed to help out, its always a weird feeling back at the bedside, instead of coordinating the day to day comings and goings, we pulled together and got it done. Great team work! Though i know there will be overtime sheets for missed breaks, that's okay because i had breakfast only today in a 12 hour shift, no wonder i had a headache, was dizzy and had a camel bladder for most of the day..lol
Here is hoping tomorrow is much better.
